Refugee Week 19th to 25th June

16 June 2017

The 19th to the 25th June marks Refugee Week, an annual celebration of the contribution of refugees to the UK.  This week will be marked in Northern Ireland by a range of cultural and educational events which will promote understanding of why people seek refuge and encourage further appreciation of diversity in our communities. Refugees have long found sanctuary in Northern Ireland, and this now includes those refugees from Syria who have been welcomed by Councils across the country through the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme.

Refugee Week will be launched in Belfast City Hall on Monday 19th June at 12.00 and will be brought to a close with the Great Refugee Picnic in Ormeau Park on Sunday 25th.
